Day 9 - Travel from Norwich to Nottingham - 16 September 2024
We leave the 800-year-old pub and head towards Nottingham and the story of Robin Hood. The markets in the square outside the pub were preparing for the day's trade and it was interesting to see the diversity of merchandise being sold. One whole stand was dedicated to birthday cards etc. which were one pound each.

We got away by around 10:00 a.m. and started northward and had to travel through the Fens. These are low lying areas that were originally marshes but were drained centuries ago to create very fertile farmlands.
Typical Fen lands |
Tim had told us about a bakery near Rutland Waters and so we thought that would be a good place to stop. They sell some amazing tarts, buns, sourdoughs and breads. We bought some tarts for later. The bakery is in the middle of nowhere however, when we arrived, there were already around thirty people having morning tea. Crazy.

Whilst we were there, we saw around ten pheasants running around in the grass. It was great to see that they were living happily in the area.
By the time we got to Nottingham, it was quite late and it was peak hour traffic through the city. The hotel is close to the CBD and very convenient. We went out for a walk around town and settled into an English pub for dinner.
There was not much site seeing done today but we travelled further north.
